This is called the “classic” Anniston ride because it is the one that we have put on so many times.  Each time we do this ride about 1/3 of the cyclists on the trip are repeat customers.   They have fallen in love with the event, the challenge, the scenery and the comraderie that they experience during this trip.  Usually there are 15 cyclists on this trip.
But this ride is not for the novice cyclist.  This overnight bicycle trip from Smyrna, Georgia to Anniston, Alabama on the Silver Comet/Chief Ladiga Trail is a 94 mile bike ride each day.  Needless to say, it is a ride for the seasoned cyclist, not a beginning cyclist in terms of endurance**.  If you undertake this ride, you should do so with the intent of riding the entire distance as there will be limited space on the SAG wagon and those seats are reserved for participants who develop physical issues or mechanical failures.  The average speed for cyclists on this ride varies between 12-17 mph.  If you cannot average at least 12 mph, please do not sign up for this ride.
**If you wish to go to Anniston, but want a shorter mileage option, a Paulding County or Rockmart start can be coordinated for a ride distance of 85 or 60 miles each day respectively.
On this ride you will travel the entire length of the Silver Comet Trail combined with the Chief Ladiga Trail as it is named on the Alabama side.  With sections of the trail having been recently repaved in Cobb County Georgia and around Piedmont, Alabama, the trail is a fairly smooth ride.  On the Silver Comet side we will travel through lovely Georgia farmland and over rolling hills.  The Silver Comet Trail ends 10 miles beyond Cedartown, Georgia at the Alabama State Line.   Picking up at the  state line is the Chief Ladiga Trail which is 33 miles long.  The Alabama side winds through the Talladega National Forest, one of the prettier and more isolated sections of the trail.  When combined these two trails make up the longest paved trail in America!
Each day there will be stops along the way at Tara Drummond (milepost 20),  Rockmart Depot (Milepost 37), Cedartown Depot (milepost 52), and Piedmont, AL (milepost 8 Ladiga Trail -18 miles beyond Cedartown) for rest, beverages and refueling with snacks. Each day lunch will be catered by Pirkels Deli (you will pre-select a boxed lunch (sandwiches and salads available) and delivered to you in Cedartown at the depot on the way to Anniston and then at the depot in Rockmart on the return trip.
Upon arrival at the hotel you may swim in the pool (during pool season) and have the option of having a relaxing massage at poolside by massage therapists.  Note: The cost of the massage is not included in the cost of the trip.
Dinner will be catered by the pool at our lodging in Anniston.  Scrumptious barbeque is generally the fare for dinner but special dietary requests can be accommodated.  Beer/wine are also provided to help you relax and get a good night’s sleep so you can ride back refreshed the next day.
The cost of this trip depends on whether you choose single or double occupancy.  The hotel rooms are spacious with a kitchenette, separated lavatory and bathroom area and two double beds in each room.
